Contract Overview
Managed by NASA, SEWP emerged in 1993 as an acronym for the phrase "Scientific and Engineering Workstation Procurement." In 2007, IT advancements and the addition of several services to the capabilities of the governmentwide acquisition contract (GWAC) called for a name change to Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement.
From its inception to present day, agencies across the federal government and Department of Defense (DOD) have used the contract vehicle to purchase a variety of technologies. But SEWP’s advantage lies in its request-based approval system, through which agencies can obtain specific solutions to real-time needs rather than relying on a limited catalogue.
In May 2015, NASA released SEWP V, the latest version of the vehicle, with updates that cater to the increasing need for and widening scope of purchases. SEWP V boasts the largest pool of contractors yet as well as detailed and automatic reporting to CIOs in order to help meet Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA) requirements.
This guide will provide an overview of SEWP’s functions, highlight the expert perspective of SEWP V Program Manager Joanne Woytek, and walk through of the rules of engagement with the GWAC, from request to procurement.
