Donald Trump, in a Video to Americans, Promises to Take Six Actions 'On Day One'
“For every one new regulation, two old regulations must be eliminated."
President-elect Donald Trump posted a brief video announcing a half-dozen executive actions he says he will be ready to take “on day one” of his administration.
Here’s a rundown of what he promised:
Withdrawing from the TPP
“I am going to issue our notification of intent to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership,” Trump said, calling the trade deal “a potential disaster for our country.” In its place, he promised to negotiate “fair, bilateral trade deals that bring jobs and industry back onto American shores.”
Looser energy restrictions
Trump promised to cancel restrictions on domestic energy production, including any that apply to shale and “ clean coal .” The intent: to roll back policies that Trump suggests have hampered job creation in the sector. “That’s what we want, that’s what we’ve been waiting for,” he said.
Red tape reductions
“For every one new regulation, two old regulations must be eliminated. So important.”
Infrastructure protection
Trump said he would ask the military to formulate “a comprehensive plan to protect American infrastructure from cyber attacks and all other form of attacks.” Such a plans already exist, so it’s not clear how Trump’s would differ.
Visa vigilance
Trump said he would ask the US Department of Labor to investigate visa program abuses “that undercut the American worker.” (Note: The department already does this. )
Slowing down the revolving door
Trump said executive branch officials would face a five-year ban on lobbying the government after they leave their posts, and a lifetime ban against lobbying on behalf of a foreign government.
