Suspect arrested in shooting of SSA employee
Victim of armed robbery did not sustain life-threatening injuries, but the incident prompted a lockdown of the agency’s Woodlawn, Md., campus for more than one hour.
Baltimore police arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting of a male Social Security Administration employee Monday.
According to a report in the Baltimore Sun, 26 year-old Gary Stokes has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault and armed robbery.
The shooting occurred just before noon, on a wooded path near several parking lots on the SSA complex. The victim, whose cell phone was stolen, collapsed from non-life threatening injuries on the edge of the complex and was taken to Baltimore's Sinai Hospital.
The incident prompted the agency to lockdown its Woodlawn, Md., campus for a little more than an hour.
After the lockdown was lifted, business continued as usual for the nearly 12,000 SSA employees, an agency spokeswoman said. SSA did station additional security in the parking lots and encouraged employees to exercise caution as they left the building.
