Perry: Attorney general should resign

GOP presidential hopeful Texas Gov. Rick Perry called for Attorney General Eric Holder to step down or be fired in an op-ed for The Washington Times on Tuesday morning.

Perry slammed Holder and the Obama administration for the botched handling of the arms-trafficking investigation known as "Operation Fast and Furious," which led to the death of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry and possibly that of a U.S. immigration agent. Perry criticized Holder in particular for a lack of transparency, arguing that although the attorney general says he heard of Fast and Furious for the first time in April, he actually knew of the operation months earlier.

"Mr. Holder's proclaimed ignorance leaves Americans to draw one of two conclusions: Either he is guilty of extraordinary bureaucratic incompetence or he is guilty of a cover-up," wrote Perry. "Either way, it is high time for Mr. Holder to step down. If he refuses to resign, Mr. Obama must fire him immediately."
