Afghan delegation attacked at site of massacre
Insurgent strike leaves at least one Afghan soldier dead, NY Times reports.
An Afghan government delegation was attacked by militants on Tuesday in the village where 16 civilians were allegedly killed by an American soldier, The New York Times reports. The incident left at least one Afghan soldier dead.
The late-morning attack came as a memorial service for the victims of this weekend’s shootings was coming to a close. Included in the delegation were two of President Hamid Karzai’s brothers, the Afghan Army chief of staff, and the deputy Interior Ministry general.
Although the Taliban pledged revenge after this weekend's incident, this is the first violent retaliation reported. The Taliban have not claimed credit for the attack.
Protests also broke out in Jalalabad, where almost 1,000 people burned an effigy of President Obama and blocked a highway.
