Army Investigating Fort Knox Shooting

An Army civilian was killed Wednesday afternoon in Fort Knox, Ky., after being shot in a parking lot outside of the headquarters of the Army Human Resources Command.
Fort Knox police were alerted at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday via 911, and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The victim -- whose name is being withheld for 24 hours after family notification -- worked at Army HRC.
On Thursday, a suspect was apprehended by police and the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command in Portland, Tenn., in connection with the shooting, NBC News reported. The suspect is assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.
In a news release published by Fort Knox’s public affairs office, Army officials said that they would look into the case carefully. Chris Grey, a spokesman for the CIC, said in a statement that special agents from the agency were “investigating a personal incident and not a random act of violence."
The gates at Fort Knox were locked down at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, as part of standard security measures undertaken following the incident.
The Army said that no other information would be released at the time to “protect the integrity of the investigation.”
