LikeWar: The Weaponization of Social Media and the New Threat Environment
Just as the hacking of networks became a security issue, so too has the hacking of people on social networks, by driving ideas viral through a mix of likes, shares, and often lies. This activity has grown in scale and been used by both state and nonstate actors to attack targets that range from public elections to private citizens and industry. It has also now become an accompanying "infodemic" that magnified the loss of the Coronavirus pandemic. Best-selling author P.W. Singer's book LikeWar was named an Amazon and Foreign Affairs Book of the Year and briefed everywhere from the NSA to Congress. He will discuss the lessons of his book and what we have seen in the latest social media threats.
