O'Leary's Travels

"Join the Energy Department and see the world."

That may sound like a recruiting slogan, but it's actually part of a Republican campaign to remind voters of Energy Secretary Hazel R. O'Leary's controversial--and expensive--business trips abroad. The Energy Department's inspector general recently reported that O'Leary's 16 foreign trips to drum up business for U.S. companies cost $4.6 million.

Meanwhile, there's much speculation about who would replace O'Leary in a second Clinton Administration. Candidates include deputy Energy Secretary Charles B. Curtis and Rep. Bill Richardson, D-N.M.
