After failed attempts during the 104th Congress, some Republican zeal for eliminating Cabinet departments seems to have faded.
But Sen. Rod Grams, R-Minn., is not relenting: He is scheduled today to announce the reintroduction of legislation to eliminate the Energy Department.
Grams' move comes on the eve of the confirmation hearing for Energy Secretary-designate Federico Pena, who is slated to appear Thursday before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, of which Grams is a member.
