GOP Wants Hit List
From CongressDailyHouse appropriators are asking for a "master list" of 254 programs the Clinton administration has slated for elimination.
In a letter today to Office of Management and Budget Director Franklin Raines, House Appropriations Chairman Robert Livingston, R-La., said Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin recently disclosed the existence of the list, adding that if it is not included in the administration's budget request, appropriators still would like to see it.
"Over the past two years, the Appropriations Committee has successfully eliminated 297 programs and we are looking to further this effort," Livingston wrote. "Your list would prove invaluable as we search for common ground in our shared goal to eliminate duplicative programs and balance the budget."
OMB officials were not immediately available for comment.
