Union-Contractor Bill Coming
From CongressDailySen. Lauch Faircloth, R-N.C., today said he will introduce legislation to overturn any efforts by the Clinton administration to "direct government contracts to unionized companies."
Vice President Gore Tuesday announced at an AFL-CIO meeting in Los Angeles the administration plans to issue new regulations requiring a company's labor record be evaluated by the government before issuing a contract, and that the government will not indirectly pay for any anti-union expenses incurred by federal contractors.
In a statement today, Faircloth said, "I don't plan to let Al Gore spend $1.5 trillion of the taxpayer's money to curry favor with the unions for his presidential campaign in 2000." Faircloth added that "contracts should be awarded on the basis of merit and least cost to the government."
