Army Gets New IS Chief

Lt. Gen. William H. Campbell is the Army's new director of information systems for command, control, communications and computers, as well as the service's chief information officer.

He replaces Lt. Gen. Otto Gunther, who retired this summer and has joined one of the nation's largest software companies, Computer Associates International Inc., as director of strategic initiatives for its federal division.

Campbell was the program executive officer for command and control and communications systems in the Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) at Fort Monmouth, N.J., before moving to his new Pentagon post Aug. 21. As PEOC3S, he was the systems architect for the Force XXI advanced warfighting experiments. He has a background in program management, systems development, acquisition and intelligence.
