Retiring Sen. John Glenn, D-Ohio, will be going back into space 36 years after the historic 1962 flight that made him the first American to orbit the Earth, CNN reported this afternoon.
The 76-year-old Glenn, who has long sought a ride on one of the space shuttles, will be a passenger on a shuttle mission in October, the network reported.
Glenn's office said it could not confirm the report, but NASA has scheduled a "major announcement" Friday which Glenn is expected to attend.
