Computer-savvy federal retirees now have up-to-date retirement information at their fingertips, thanks to a new Office of Personnel Management Web site.
As a result of a survey that indicated one-third of federal annuitants wanted to receive more information via the Internet, OPM designed the site, http://www.opm.gov/retire, which is dedicated entirely to federal retirees.
"The new site is a valuable resource for our federal retirees, survivors and benefits counselors throughout government," OPM Director Janice Lachance said. "And the beauty of OPM's site is that it allows our customers to obtain information at their convenience."
The site's frequently asked questions section contains information for retirees in every stage of retirement. New retirees can learn about benefit payment schedules, changing health insurance plans and cost of living adjustments. Families can learn about health benefits and survivor benefits for children and spouses. The section also addresses topics such as leaving government service early, claiming death benefits and what to do if you become disabled.
In the site's "Library" section, retirees can download Civil Service Retirement System and Federal Employees Retirement System brochures and forms. Just one click away is a section detailing various ways to contact OPM to ask retirement questions.
The site also lists numerous links to other federal benefits Web sites with details on health and life insurance.
