The Washington Times notes today that several employees at Environmental Protection Agency headquarters this week received e-mail messages from a fellow worker urging them to support the re-election of Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md.
One of the memos, obtained by the newspaper, was sent by Jeff Beaubier, an environmental epidemiologist and vice president of National Treasury Employees Union Chapter 280. In the message, Beaubier said he plans to attend a Hoyer campaign event on Oct. 23 "to promote visibility and needed support for US EPA scientists and other professionals at headquarters."
An attached memo from the NTEU's Charlene Neu said Hoyer is inviting federal employees to attend the Oct. 23 event, but that "since this is a political event, federal employees who attend must take annual leave."
Washington Times reporter John McCaslin notes the internal e-mail system is for "official purposes only."
