Feeling guilty because you missed your kid's first Little League home run? Logging too many hours in the office and not enough family time? The Office of Personnel Management is ready to help with a new center in Washington dedicated solely to resources and education on family-friendly workplace programs.

The workplace advocacy office provides information and technical assistance on programs such as alternative work schedules, telecommuting, child care and elder care. The office also works with the General Service Administration to offer information on federal child care programs and with the Department of Health and Human Services to promote child adoption and to support parents in collecting child support.

Federal managers can use the office as well. Office publications address how to overcome barriers to implementing family-friendly programs and suggest ideas on how to improve employees' awareness of what programs are available to them.

OPM launched the office Monday. It is located at OPM headquarters at 1900 E Street NW in Washington, and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. For more information, see the OPM Web site or call 202-606-5520.
