Mark L.Schneider was sworn in as the director of the Peace Corps in late December. Schneider leaves behind his career at the Agency for International Development, where he was assistant administrator of the Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean for six years. Prior to that, Schneider headed the agency's Office of Analysis and Strategic Planning. Schneider's predecessor, Mark Gearan, left the Peace Corps in August to become president of Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y.

Former Hillary Rodham Clinton spokeswoman Marsha E. Berry is joining the Export-Import Bank of the United States as vice president of communications. Barry served as deputy assistant to President Clinton and director of communications to the First Lady in her former position. In her new job, she will oversee communications, media relations, event coordination and other outreach efforts for the bank, an independent agency that helps finance the sale of U.S. exports to emerging markets.

Robert J. Walker is joining the Council for Excellence in Government as a vice president next month. Walker is stepping down from his current position as president of Handgun Control, Inc. and the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence. He succeeds Sally Sachar, who left to become deputy director of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. In his new role, Walker will lead the Partnership for Trust in Government program and will direct the Council's role in the Innovations in American Government Awards.

Laurie Robinson, director of the Justice Department's Office of Justice Programs, is retiring. Robinson worked for almost six years at Justice on state and local criminal and juvenile justice issues. She hasn't decided yet what her next career move will be.

Congratulations to Larry Payne, who has been promoted to the Senior Executive Service as the Director of Cooperative Forestry for State and Private Forestry at the Forest Service. Payne replaces Steve Satterfield, who is retiring this month. Payne has logged more than 25 years in the Forest Service, in four regions and five national forests and as the deputy regional forester for the Eastern Region. He has also spent time in the agency's Washington headquarters on the civil rights staff and in the Office of Resource Programs and Assessment. His last post was as assistant deputy chief of state and private forestry.
