Congress to thank federal workers for Y2K success
A House panel approved a draft resolution applauding the efforts of federal employees who helped battle the so-called Y2K computer glitch.
The House Government Reform Subcommittee on Government Management, Information and Technology approved the resolution on Wednesday.
It may bypass the full committee and be considered on the floor as early as next week, according to committee sources.
The action follows the formal conclusion of the Clinton Administration's effort to manage a massive, worldwide campaign to correct computer programs and imbedded microprocessor chips that could not distinguish between the year 2000 and 1900 when the new year began. Virtually all the world's utility and communications networks were unimpaired on Jan. 1, according to the President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion, which dissolved on March 31.
