Bush administration to review Clinton era regulations
The incoming Bush administration will not only review the spate of regulations promulgated in recent weeks by President Clinton, but will extend its focus to all regulations put forth by the Clinton administration, Bush-Cheney Transition Spokesman Ari Fleischer said Thursday.
"The immediate focus will be on some of the things that were done most recently," Fleischer said. "But of course, we're going to look at all regulations" signed by Clinton, he said, adding the process would be "ongoing" during the Bush administration.
The recent Clinton actions, particularly a rule related to ergonomics, have drawn fire from Republicans.
Fleischer offered a broad overview of a meeting Wednesday between Bush and his budget advisers, saying the gathering centered not only on spending requests, but also on the budget process.
Fleischer said that the new administration would not have the luxury of the normal "passback" process between the White House and the agencies.
