Nominations sought for travel managers’ award
Do you know a group of people who have upgraded a federal travel management operation from a biplane to a jumbo jet? If so Government Executive's annual Travel Managers of the Year Awards program wants to hear about them. The awards honor travel managers and agencies that have made great strides with relocation, paperless travel management, excellence in travel acquisition or administration, innovation with private-sector partners or that have advanced technology. Federal agencies, departments, installations or facilities that have implemented programs or systems for government travel reinvention are eligible for the awards. The program strives to educate people throughout the government about good practices and to recognize achievements in travel management. Last year's winners included operations at the Transportation and Veterans Affairs departments, the Army and the General Services Administration. At Transportation, managers developed FedTrip, a Web-based self-booking software tailored to government requirements. It allows electronic booking and fulfillment of travel, travel agency services and expense processing. The system also lets travelers make arrangements in a paperless, electronic environment. If innovations like this are happening in your agency, submit your nominations online by June 30. Winners will be notified in September and honored at an awards reception in November. Also, separate recognition will be given to promising travel management programs and systems that have yet to show demonstrable results but are aligned with the goals of reinventing travel.
