Americans Voice Concerns on Drug Approval Process

A new Consumer Reports survey shows that 84 percent of Americans think that pharmaceutical companies have too much influence over the government officials who regulate them. The study comes as Congress prepares to reauthorize the Prescription Drug User Fee Act, under which drug companies help pay for the approval process for new drugs. The poll showed that more than 60 percent of Americans agree that the Food and Drug Administration and Congress don't do enough to protect consumers from potentially harmful drugs.
