Six killed in attack on U.S. consulate in Pakistan
Earlier in the day, terrorists killed at least 30 others in a separate suicide attack.
Terrorists attacked the U.S. compound in Peshawar, Pakistan, on Monday, killing six people, including two security guards employed by the consulate general, authorities said. All of the dead were Pakistani.
A few Americans suffered minor injuries, according to the State Department.
The coordinated attack involved a vehicle suicide bomb and terrorists attempting to enter the building using grenades and weapons fire, the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, terrorists targeted a political gathering about 50 miles northeast of Peshawar. The suicide bomber killed at least 30 and injured 50 others, officials said.
"This attack, and the one earlier today in Lower Dir, which killed and wounded many others, reflects the terrorists' desperation as they are rejected by people throughout Pakistan," the embassy statement said.
The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for both attacks.
