Defense Procurement Initiatives on the Way
Looks like the Pentagon is set to make a significant move on acquisition reform this week. Just saw this announcement: "Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology and Logistics) Ashton Carter will conduct a press briefing on new acquisition and procurement initiatives guidelines on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. EDT."
After Gates launched his effort to scour the Defense budget for $100 billion in overhead cuts earlier this year, Carter said that when it comes to weapons systems now in research and development, "we need to make sure affordability and not just appetite are designed in from the start."
We'll of course be following the briefing tomorrow and providing updates on GovExec.com.
