Gates, a True D.C. Hater

It's no secret that Defense Secretary Robert Gates wants to get out of town as soon as he can. It's not just that he's ready to return to non-public life. It's that he really doesn't like Washington.

Ed O'Keefe notes today that Sirius/XM radio has compiled several of Gates' best zingers in speeches. Nearly all of them come at Washington's expense. Some examples:

  • "Washington, D.C.--a place where so many people are lost in thought because it's such unfamiliar territory."
  • "Where people say I'll double-cross that bridge when I come to it."
  • "The only place in the world where you can see a prominent person walking down Lover's Lane holding his own hand."
