Candidate Called Hypocrite on Federal Benefits
There's been a lot of talk about federal pay and benefits this campaign season, but none quite like this. The Wall Street Journal's Washington Wire reports that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., who's locked in a nasty reelection battle with upstart Sharron Angle, has accused his opponent of being a hypocrite on the issue of cutting government spending, especially on benefits programs. He's launched a radio ad that includes the following:
Sharron Angle travels around Nevada railing against all government programs. She says she wants to abolish Social Security, Medicare and even the VA. But did you ever hear her say, "Let's get the Bureau of Land Management out of Nevada?" Of course not. You see, for 37 years, Sharron Angle's husband worked as a government employee for the BLM. And today, she's living off her husband's BLM government pension and receiving health coverage from his government-run insurance plan. Sharron Angle seems to hate government programs, unless they're paying her bills.
