When New Year's Day Isn't a Federal Holiday
When is New Year's Day not an official federal holiday? When, Ed O'Keefe notes today, it falls on a Saturday, as it does at the beginning of 2011. But don't panic: Federal employees will still get all of their allotted 10 paid holidays, this year and next.
The New Year's Day holiday will be observed on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010. But through a quirk of federal personnel policy, it will count as a 2011 holiday.
