Student Loan Data Due
The Office of Personnel Management is asking federal agencies to collect and report on student loan benefits paid out to employees in 2010.
In a Feb. 17 memo to chief human capital officers, OPM Director John Berry requested consolidated, departmentwide data for each agency, including:
- The number of employees who receive student loan repayment benefit
- Recipients' pay plan, occupational series and job title
- Total dollar amount of benefits paid
Agencies also are being asked to share best practices, program metrics and information about how loan repayments are being used to recruit and retain employees. Reports are due March 31.
Agencies that didn't provide any student loan benefits last year must submit a report to OPM describing that status of repayment programs -- established, in progress or non-existent -- and specify why student loan repayments are not used to boost recruitment and retention.
