No Recognition Week

How's this for a sign of the times? Federal Times reports that the 2011 budget agreement approved by Congress last week includes no funds for the annual Public Service Recognition Week events that typically take place on the National Mall. So there won't be any celebration this year, says Max Stier, head of the Partnership for Public Service, which in the past has hosted the Mall events with the group Public Employees Roundtable.

Apparently there will be events in other areas around the country, sponsored by local Federal Executive Boards. The recognition week is May 1-7 this year.
