You Want Small Government?

Private sector companies added 268,000 jobs to the economy last month, according to the Labor Department. Overall the gain in employment across all sectors of the economy was 244,000 jobs.

How can that be?

The answer is that government at the federal, state and local levels is losing jobs -- 24,000 in April, to be exact.

Retail outlets, professional and business services firms, the leisure and hospitality sector and the health care industry all are adding jobs at a relatively rapid clip. In the public sector, though, it's a different story.
