Obama Attacks "Pointless, Stupid, Ridiculous" Spending
The White House is stepping up its campaign today aimed at showing it's rooting out waste in federal spending.
That includes a video from President Obama himself in which he gleefully mocks federal spending on everything from printing the Federal Register to overnighting empty shipping containers.
"What should be easy is getting rid of the pointless waste and stupid spending that doesn't benefit anybody," Obama says in the video. "We've pulled the plug on all kinds of ridiculous practices."
"Did you know that the federal government pays for a website devoted to a folk music ensemble made up of forest rangers?" the president adds. "They're called the Fiddlin' Foresters. I'll put their music on my iPod, but I'm not paying for their website." (As of this morning, though, the site still was active. Update, 2:28 p.m.: it appears to be gone. Farewell, Fiddlin' Foresters.)
