TSA Runoff Election Nears End
The long-awaited runoff election at the Transportation Security Administration is coming to a close, and airport screeners have until midnight on Tuesday to cast votes for the National Treasury Employees Union or the American Federation of Government Employees. The results will be announced on Thursday.
AFGE and NTEU have been vying for exclusive representation of 40,000 TSA employees, but an election held earlier this spring failed to produce a majority of votes for either organization. In that election, AFGE received 8,369 votes, while 8,095 TSA workers voted for NTEU. In addition, 3,111 employees voted not to elect union representation. Less than 50 percent of eligible employees participated in the ballot process.
TSA workers, who have been forbidden from organizing for the past decade, also have been granted limited collective bargaining rights.
