IRS offering buyouts to employees
Thousands of workers have until end of the year to accept the offers.
The Internal Revenue Service is currently offering buyout packages to thousands of its employees.
The offer is being extended to about 5,400 IRS workers, and the agency will accept as many as 1,600, according to IRS spokeswoman Sara Eguren. Eligible employees have until Nov. 22 to accept the buyouts, and those who do will be removed from the payroll on Dec. 31.
The buyouts are capped at $25,000 per person.
Correction: The original version of this story misstated the deadline for accepting the buyouts. Eligible employees have until Nov. 22 to take the buyouts, and those who do will be removed from the payroll on Dec. 31.
