Drinking on the Job? You're Fired
Eight federal air marshals lose their jobs for drinking at a restaurant while on the clock.
There are certain things you just can't do as a federal air marshal, and one of them is drink on the job.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the Transportation Security Administration is firing eight air marshals for consuming alcohol at a restaurant in February while they were on the clock. The marshals weren't scheduled to fly on the day the incident occurred, but drinking is prohibited while marshals are on duty.
Air marshals travel incognito on commercial flights to provide security if needed. "They blend in with passengers and rely on their training, including investigative techniques, criminal terrorist behavior recognition, firearms proficiency, aircraft specific tactics, and close quarters self-defense measures to protect the flying public," according to TSA.
The eight fired marshals work out of the Federal Air Marshal Service's New York field office. Another six marshals in the office were suspended for failing to report the drinking incident, the Times reported.
