Fighting Fraud in Federal Agencies

Fraud is one of the most underreported crimes in the United States and costs the government and taxpayers billions of dollars. Social programs, particularly in the financial and healthcare sectors, are often the most vulnerable to fraudulent activity, and can result in denial of benefits to legitimate applicants and weakening of public trust in these programs. This epidemic of fraud rose in tandem with the COVID-19 pandemic, as criminal exploitation put strain on systems already working overtime. How can agencies identify and defend themselves against fraudulent activity while still providing crucial services to their constituents?
