FBI chief cites progress in overhauling structure
FBI Director Robert Mueller told the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday that the law enforcement agency is making progress in reforming its structure.
Mueller said "elements" of the agency's criminal division and its National Infrastructure Protection Center will be rolled into a new cyber division, which will respond to high-tech crimes.
The change combines "various cyber initiatives and programs so we are better focused, organized and coordinated in working with our public and private-sector partners to protect our nation's growing digital marketplace and electronic infrastructure," he said in prepared testimony.
The FBI's deployment of new hardware and networks also is moving on a speedier schedule, as the agency streamlines ways to share information with state and local officials through the new Office of Law Enforcement Coordination.
