Washington Agencies to Open Two Hours Late
Employees also have option of unscheduled leave or telework.
Federal agencies in the Washington area will open two hours late on Tuesday, the Office of Personnel Management announced, with the option for employees to take unscheduled leave or telework.
"Non-emergency employees who report to the office will be granted excused absence (administrative leave) for up to 2 hours past their expected arrival time," the agency said. Emergency employees are expected to report on time.
OPM Director Katherine Archuleta made the call shortly before 4 a.m, after an overnight snowfall. "By 3 am, 1 to 3 inches had fallen throughout the area, with an additional 1/2 inch of heavy snow expected to start around 4 am," she wrote in a Facebook post. "Though local departments of transportation have reported that most major roadways are in good shape, we decided to err on the side of caution to ensure that individuals in the outlying areas or anyone experiencing localized, more severe conditions had the flexibility they needed for the morning commute."
