Washington Offices Closed Tuesday As Snow Moves In

Washington-area federal agencies will be closed Tuesday due to heavy snowfall, the Office of Personnel Management announced Monday evening.

"Emergency and telework-ready employees required to work must follow their agency's policies, including written telework agreements," OPM said in the announcement.

Non-emergency employees will be granted administrative leave for the day, but telework-ready workers already scheduled to be working or who are required to telework when federal offices are closed will be expected to complete their duties.

"The Washington metro area was expected to get 6-10 inches of snow accumulation, with lower amounts to the north and higher amounts in areas south of the District," OPM Director Katherine Archuleta wrote in a Facebook post. "Temperatures were not expected to rise above freezing, making road treatments significantly less effective. [The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority] announced a reduced Saturday schedule for trains and bus companies announced significantly restricted schedules. Additionally, local transportation departments reported they would not be able to clear roads until the afternoon, and the National Park Service reported that sidewalks likewise would not be cleared until the afternoon."
