Photos: Federal Animals Frolic Thursday in the Snow
Wildlife at Smithsonian's National Zoo enjoyed the five inches that fell on the facility Thursday.
The Washington region received a blanket of snow Thursday, closing schools and the federal government. While most feds got the day off, some of the wilder federal charges spent the day playing in the snow at Smithsonian's National Zoo in DC.
The National Zoo is one the federal institutions that officially closed in the snow, but the zoo had some emergency workers on the job Thursday. Zoo staffers took photos of some of the animals in the facility's American Trail exhibit enjoying the weather. One photo even emerged from the National Zoo's more research-oriented Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Virginia.
