Obama Nominates OMB Adviser as Deputy Management Director

With a year to go in his administration and a Senate in the habit of delaying nominations, President Obama on Thursday announced he was naming Andrew Mayock, currently a senior adviser at the Office of Management and Budget, to be deputy director for management.

That job had been occupied by Beth Cobert before she moved over to be acting director of the Office of Personnel Management, a post for which she has been nominated. The deputy manager slot has been filled since July by David Mader, controller of the Office of Federal Financial Management.

Mayock, a Clinton administration White House veteran who also spent five years consulting on diplomacy and development policy at Booz Allen Hamilton, joined OMB in 2013 as associate director for general government programs. Before that, he was deputy vice president for compact implementation at the Millennium Challenge Corporation from 2010 to 2013, and for two years prior was the executive secretary at the Treasury Department, according to the White House statement.

At the second-term Clinton White House, he was special assistant to the deputy chief of staff and then senior advisor to the director of public liaison. From 2001-2002, he was an international trade consultant at the Center for Business and Government at Harvard University.

Mayock received a B.A. from the University of Illinois, an M.P.A. from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, and a J.D. from George Washington University Law School.
