Seeking Nominations for the Best in Public Service

Who are the best of the best in the federal government? If you know, now’s the time to speak up. Because nominations close Friday for the 2016 Service to America Medals.

The Sammies, as the awards are known, are given annually by the Partnership for Public Service, a nonprofit group that promotes good government. Thee awards are presented to employees and teams from federal agencies in nine categories. Anyone familiar with an employee or team’s work can submit a nomination.

Last year’s winners included:

• Steven A. Rosenberg, chief of the surgery branch at the National Cancer Institute, who developed an innovative gene therapy treatment for fighting cancer.
• Adam R. Schildge of the Federal Transit Administration, who developed a grant program to help repair infrastructure after Hurricane Sandy.
• Mia Beers and the U.S. Ebola Disaster Assistance Response Team.

Thirty finalists for this year’s awards will be unveiled in the spring at an event on Capitol Hill during Public Service Recognition Week. Winners will be honored at a gala event in Washington in the fall.
