DHS to Solicit Proposals for ‘Wall Structures’ on Southern Border
Department wants contractors to submit design and build prototype concepts by March 10.
The Homeland Security Department on Friday said it planned to issue a solicitation on March 6 for “the design and build of several prototype wall structures in the vicinity of the United States border with Mexico.”
Customs and Border Protection will handle the procurement, according to the presolicitation notice posted on FedBizOps.
According to the notice:
“The procurement will be conducted in two phases, the first requiring vendors to submit a concept paper of their prototype(s) by March 10, 2017, which will result in the evaluation and down select of offerors by March 20, 2017. The second phase will require the down select of phase 1 offerors to submit proposals in response to the full RFP by March 24, 2017, which will include price.
DHS expects to issue multiple awards for the work by mid-April. “An option for additional miles may be included in each contract award,” according to the notice.
In a speech Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference in suburban Washington, President Trump indicated that construction of the wall would start in the near future.
"We're building the wall," Trump said. "In fact, it's going to start soon. Way ahead of schedule. Way ahead of schedule. Way, way, way ahead of schedule. It's going to start very soon.”
According to FedBizOps, 11 vendors have expressed interest in the work.
