Play of the Day: Executive Privilege At The Executive Branch
The administration is invoking executive privilege to keep itself away from Congressional oversight.
The New York Times reported, by obtaining years of tax documents, that President Donald Trump's businesses lost over $1B between 1985 and 1994. Late-night hosts joked about the news on Wednesday night, with Late Night's Seth Meyers asking if Trump bet everything on blue at a roulette table and Full Frontal Samantha Bee joking "I used to think Donald Trump's took a dip in the early 90s recession, now I think maybe he was the early 90s recession."
Trump is invoking executive privilege to keep the unredacted Mueller Report from being released and to keep Attorney General William Barr from testifying in front of Congress again. Meyers joked that it was the first time Trump invoked executive privilege since he last played golf, while Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked that executive privilege is one of Trump's favorite privileges but definitely behind "Mar-a-Lago handicapped bathroom" privilege. Late Late Show's James Corden joked about the news, too, saying that Trump loves executive privilege because it sounds like the name of "a line of aftershave he he would've released exclusively through J. C. Penney."
