This week, President Joe Biden’s administration began with a repeal of his predecessor’s travel ban to several majority Muslim countries, an announcement of a 100-day pause on deportations and an “immediate termination” of the national emergency declaration that allowed for shifting money toward the border wall. Against this backdrop, Biden’s choice to head the Homeland Security Department, Alejandro Mayorkas, sat before a Senate panel as part of the confirmation process earlier this week.
