Senate oversight committee confirms comptroller general
Gene Dodaro is a 30-year veteran of GAO, and has run the agency in an acting role since March 2008.
The Government Accountability Office is one step closer to finally having a permanent leader.
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Tuesday unanimously approved the nomination of Gene Dodaro to serve as comptroller general. Dodaro, who has filled the position on an acting basis since March 2008, sailed through the committee's confirmation hearing earlier in November without any controversy.
Dodaro has worked at GAO for more than 30 years, beginning as an entry-level auditor and moving up to head the accounting and information management division. For nine years, he served as the agency's chief operating officer, GAO's No. 2 leadership position.
It is not clear if the full Senate will vote on Dodaro's nomination during the lame-duck session. The comptroller general serves a nonrenewable 15-year term.
