Bin Laden raid movie features Obama
Democratic fundraiser and director claim film is not politically motivated.
A made-for-television movie about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, backed by an Obama fundraiser, was re-cut to make the president look stronger and remove a scene showing Mitt Romney’s apparent opposition to hunting down the terrorist leader, The New York Times reports.
Democratic fundraiser Harvey Weinstein funded the film, SEAL Team Six: The Raid on Osama bin Laden, which is set to air on the National Geographic Channel the Sunday before Election Day. The film had been re-cut using documentary footage and news reports, reportedly to paint Obama in a favorable light.
The president appears in several scenes, and at one point is shown saying, “Justice has been done.” A scene showing Romney's apparent opposition the raid was removed.
After seeing the film, The Times called it “a political stunt.” Though in an interview, Weinstein and the film’s director claimed it was not politically motivated.
