The plan to cut down on counterfeiting of the American $100 bill hit a snag earlier this month, with 30 million of the bills having been printed incorrectly . The Tonight Show ’s Jay Leno joked about the story Tuesday, saying we could put the incorrect bills to good use by sending them to China to pay off the U.S. debt. He also wondered if the mistakes were due to Benjamin Franklin’s image looking too much like Susan Boyle. Leno also commented on this week’s debt ceiling comments by Jacob Lew. Leno compared the American budget situation to a personal one, saying the government should only spend the money is has.
The National Security Agency’s surveillance program continues to be a point of focus on late-night TV. Leno mentioned the news that agency analysts were using information to spy on former spouses and asked why the NSA couldn’t get the culprit in the famed phishing emails everyone has received . David Letterman tied the NSA scandal’s lead character to the main news of Monday morning by saying that Miley Cyrus has been granted asylum in Russia.
