Play of the Day: Headwear Can Offend in Saudi Arabia
Americans need to take heed of sensibilities in the Middle East kingdom.
Barack Obama's nominee Loretta Lynch made headlines this week when she declared that she would not be a rubber stamp for Obama policies were she to be confirmed head of the Justice Department. During her hearing, she also talked about torture, giving Conan O'Brien an opportunity to take a shot Johnny Depp's new film.
On the Manhattan-based Late Show, David Letterman continued to talk about the New York blizzard that wasn't. Mistakenly calling it "The Weather Bureau" while introducing the piece, Letterman showed a "PSA" by the National Weather Service on how the actual forecasting technology actually works at NWS.
Obama's visit to Saudi Arabia was big news this week and The Daily Show took opportunity to examine who was in the American delegation sent to attend King Abdullah ibn Abd al-Aziz's funeral... and compare it to the lack of officials sent to Paris earlier in the month. With Michelle Obama's headwear in Saudi Arabia causing a minor stir, Letterman's staff produced another video joke about Saudi Arabian customs surrounding head coverings.
