Secret Service Agent's Gun, Badge Stolen From Vehicle
An encrypted flash drive was also taken.
The Secret Service has endured its fair share of scandals in 2015, and it seems it will end the year with at least one more.
The agency filed a police report on Monday in Washington, D.C., after an agent’s gun, badge, radio, handcuffs and flash drive were stolen out of the agent’s personal vehicle, according to a CNN report. The incident occurred near the Secret Service’s headquarters in Washington.
The unidentified agent works in the Presidential Protective Division, according to CNN, which also reported the flash drive was encrypted and password protected. The agent saw someone reach into the vehicle but did not see anything removed, according to the police report. A Patagonia bag was also missing.
The theft comes just weeks after a congressional report found the Secret Service was “in crisis” following its recent string of failures and abuses. Congress has held several hearings with Secret Service leadership to discuss efforts to reform the agency and better discipline misbehaving employees.
