Play of the Day: Tim Kaine, Democrats and Even More Emails
The Democratic National Convention got off to an inauspicious start.
Three days before the 2016 Democratic National Convention began, Hillary Clinton selected Virginia's Tim Kaine as her running mate. The bilingual Kaine spoke Spanish during the duo's Saturday Miami rally, causing Late Night's Seth Meyers to joke about Donald Trump's statements regarding Hispanics. Meyers also called Kaine as safe as a "Volvo with a bicycle helmet" but Full Frontal's Samantha Bee joked that Kaine's more like a "Ferrari minivan," due to his humanity. Bee also joked that Kaine has "enough humanity" even for the somewhat robotic Clinton.
In addition to the Kaine announcement Friday, another Democratic email scandal emerged over the weekend showing that the Democratic National Committee favored Clinton over Bernie Sanders in the primary. Meyers said email is to Clinton as snakes are to Indiana Jones, while Jimmy Kimmel suggested that Democrats just go back to carrier pigeons. Late Show's Stephen Colbert keyed in on one particularly blunt email exchange, saying that the all-caps "EAT MY BUTT" message has the kind of language that could really go toe-to-toe with Donald Trump.
