Play of the Day: Wrapping Up the 2016 Democratic Convention
Clinton dressed like Pitbull, Kaine does a terrible Trump impression and the Obamas got worldly.
The Democratic National Convention wrapped up last last week with Hillary Clinton accepting her party's nomination while, as Last Week Tonight's John Oliver noted, cosplaying as Pitbull. The convention was not all sunshine and rainbows, as The Nightly Show's Larry Wilmore noted, with former Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz creating a great event she could not attend. Before the convention, Wasserman Schultz admonished her home state's disruptive delegates, saying it's "not the Florida that we know. Oliver tied that to her home state's insane history with guns, gators and the elderly.
Two of the stars of the convention were the the current couple living in the White House: Michelle and Barack Obama. The president's speech touched on the rest of the world's confusion about Donald Trump, which Oliver compared to the menu at Guy's American Kitchen & Bar in a faux French accent. The First Lady's speech suggested American exceptionalism, which Oliver first questioned and then told Denmark to shove it because "[Michelle's] arms make me feel safe."
